Eleven Reasons to Choose Upstate Hearing Instruments
#1 – Experienced
More than 30 years’ experience and 10,000 ears checked give us a level of expertise that’s unsurpassed in Northern California, making us one of the most trusted groups of hearing care professionals in the Western United States.
#2 – Test Driven
Hearing in our office or walking around a warehouse with new hearing instruments is not living with better hearing in the real world. But imagine a one-week test drive with a new car to see how it handles under the most demanding of situations.
Now you’re talking and we’re listening!
No deposit, no contract, no fuss. Our team of hearing professionals will fit your very specific hearing profile and let you try your hearing instruments out on the open road of life at no charge.
#3 – Real Ear Measurement
We use Real-ear measurements to determine whether or not a hearing aid user is receiving the precise level of amplification needed at every frequency in order to achieve the best hearing improvement results possible.
During real-ear measurements, a thin probe microphone is inserted into the ear canal alongside the hearing aid. We obtain readings of the exact sound levels you are receiving from the hearing aid while listening to various recorded speech samples. We are then able to adjust the sound levels to match target amplification levels based on the hearing aid user’s hearing loss across speech frequencies.
Performing real-ear measurements during the initial fitting process will help us to ensure that you are receiving the correct level of amplification.
#4 – Care for Life
When you invest in hearing instruments from our office, you receive our care for life.
You’ll receive our full patient care for the life of your hearing instruments.
#5 – Never Be Without
We know what it’s like to need better hearing, we live with our own hearing challenges, and we don’t want to be without better hearing.
Being hearing instrument users, we decided long ago that should one of our patients ever need to send a hearing instrument in for repair, we would offer them loaners at no charge.
#6 – We’re There for You
We know your time is valuable, so we provide two full time and three part time Northern California office locations to make better hearing more accessible than ever before. Redding and Chico offices are open full-time, Monday-Friday.
Red Bluff, Susanville, and Weaverville are open during regular select days of the month.
Please see our website to schedule an appointment at any of these better hearing service locations. All offices have convenient parking and handicap accessibility.
#7 – Our Team
With over 60 years of combined experience, we are confident in addressing your better hearing needs. The owner, Ken Wood, has been a hearing instrument user since childhood and devoted his life’s work to helping others hear to the best of their ability.
Our hearing instrument specialist and support staff have been chosen first and foremost for their customer service abilities and expertise in providing the best hearing care solutions possible.
At Upstate Hearing, you will be treated with the compassion, care, and dedication your hearing needs deserve.
#8 – Physician Trusted
Many local physicians depend on us as their patient’s hearing care experts and regularly refer patients to us.
We’ve worked hard to gain the trust and confidence of local physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners by offering comprehensive hearing tests and hearing aid care.
Our protocols make sure that your primary healthcare provider always gets a copy of your audiogram and is alerted if a higher level of follow-up care is required.
#9 – Insurance Specialist
Healthcare insurance can be a hassle, which is why we try to simplify your better hearing experience by having a dedicated insurance specialist available to check on any hearing care benefit you might have and bill directly to your insurance carrier whenever possible.
#10 – Education and Outreach
At Upstate Hearing, we believe in regular ongoing training education to better understand poor hearing and the day-to-day challenges that go along with it, whether it’s for our staff, patients, or community.
Hearing instruments are only part of the full range of services you will receive when you choose better hearing from our offices. Understanding your hearing and challenges are important both for you, your family, and loved ones.

I thought the office was friendly and kind, and the technician was very accurate in describing my symptoms
I first realized that I might have a hearing loss when I was working and noticed that previously I could tell when my phone was ringing no matter where I was in the room, and then I couldn’t tell where the ringing was coming from. I noticed even when I was next to my phone that I couldn’t distinguish which phone was ringing.
