Cookie Policy
Last Updated: August 12, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how UpState Hearing Instruments (“UpState Hearing,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on upstatehearing.com (the “Site”). It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and Notice of Privacy Practices.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your computer, phone, or tablet when you visit a website. They allow the site to recognize your device, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use the site.
We also use technologies that work similarly to cookies, including:
- Pixels and tags — tiny invisible images or snippets of code that record when a page is loaded or an action is taken.
- Local storage — data saved by your browser that persists between visits.
- Software development kits (SDKs) and similar tools embedded by the third-party services we use.
Throughout this policy, we use “cookies” to refer to all of these technologies.
Why We Use Cookies
We use cookies to:
- Keep the Site secure and functioning properly
- Remember your preferences, such as your selected office location
- Understand which pages and services visitors find most useful
- Measure whether our advertising reaches the right people in Northern California
- Display reviews, videos, social media feeds, and appointment tools from trusted third parties
We do not use cookies to collect protected health information, and we do not knowingly use cookies to identify you as a patient. See “Cookies and Your Health Information” below.
Categories of Cookies We Use
1. Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are required for the Site to work. They handle page navigation, form security, and load balancing. You cannot turn these off through our Site, though your browser may allow you to block them — doing so will break parts of the Site.
Examples on our Site include WordPress session and security cookies, and cookies set by our page builder to render layouts correctly.
2. Functional and Preference Cookies
These remember choices you make so the Site behaves the way you expect. For example, remembering which of our five offices you selected, retaining information you entered in our Request a Callback form, or storing your cookie preferences.
3. Analytics and Performance Cookies
These help us understand how visitors find and use the Site — which pages get the most traffic, how long people stay, where they drop off, and whether our resource articles are useful. We use this to improve the Site.
We use Google Analytics, deployed through Google Tag Manager, for this purpose. Google Analytics collects information such as your approximate location, device type, browser, referring website, and the pages you view.
4. Advertising and Targeting Cookies
These cookies may be set by advertising partners to measure the performance of our campaigns and to show relevant ads for hearing care services on other websites and social platforms. They may build a profile of your interests based on your browsing activity.
5. Third-Party Embedded Content
Some pages include content hosted by other companies. When that content loads, the provider may set its own cookies, which are governed by their policies rather than ours:
- Google — Tag Manager, Analytics, Fonts, Maps, and our Google review display
- Instagram and Facebook (Meta) — our embedded social feed and social links
- YouTube — embedded videos
When you click “Schedule Appointment,” you leave our Site and enter a scheduling portal operated by a third party. That portal has its own privacy and cookie practices, and this policy does not apply to it.
Cookies and Your Health Information
UpState Hearing takes patient privacy seriously. We do not intentionally configure analytics or advertising tools to capture information that would identify you as a patient or reveal a specific health condition. Information you provide through our Request a Callback form is handled as described in our Privacy Policy and Notice of Privacy Practices — not through advertising cookies.
Our online scheduling and patient portal systems are operated separately from this Site. Any information you enter there is governed by the privacy practices of those systems and applicable federal and state health privacy law.
How to Control Cookies
Cookie preferences on our Site. [If a consent banner or preference center is installed, describe it here and link to it. Delete this paragraph if none exists.]
Browser settings. Every major browser lets you view, delete, and block cookies. Instructions are available in the help sections of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. Blocking all cookies will prevent parts of our Site from working correctly.
Google Analytics opt-out. Google offers a browser add-on that prevents Google Analytics from collecting your data across all websites: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
Advertising opt-outs. You can opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies through:
- Digital Advertising Alliance: optout.aboutads.info
- Network Advertising Initiative: optout.networkadvertising.org
These opt-outs are stored in a cookie, so clearing your cookies or switching browsers will reset them.
Mobile devices. Both iOS and Android include advertising controls in their privacy settings that limit ad tracking across apps.
Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal that tells websites you do not want your personal information sold or shared. We honor GPC signals where required by California law.
There is currently no consistent industry standard for older “Do Not Track” browser signals, and our Site does not respond to them.
California Privacy Rights
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Some advertising cookies may qualify as “sharing” under California law. To opt out, use the controls described above, enable Global Privacy Control in your browser, or contact us using the details below.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as our Site, our tools, or the law changes. The updated version will be posted here with a revised “Last Updated” date. We encourage you to review it periodically.
