Knowing what your insurance will or will not cover helps you determine your overall budget, which in turn helps our Licensed Hearing Aid Dispensers choose the best product to fit your specific hearing loss. Though every policy and client present a unique set of circumstances, the following may help establish whether or not your policy includes hearing aid benefits.
Unfortunately, as of right now Medicare does not cover hearing aids. Often, Medicare Supplement policies follow Medicare guidelines when it comes to what services they cover, so if Medicare doesn’t pay, Medicare Supplement policies don’t either.
However, there are an increasing number of private insurance companies that are adding the purchase of hearing devices to their benefits. Some private insurance companies have benefits for both in and out of network coverage. UpState Hearing Instruments is contracted as an “in-network provider” for Anthem Blue Cross, as well as Blue Shield of California. The policy type, or group that you are affiliated with, will determine what your individual benefit might be. Some policies will pay a percentage (co-insurance) of 50 percent to 100 percent. Some policies have a flat rate dollar amount that they will contribute. For example, Blue Shield of California FEP (Federal Employee Program) patients have a flat benefit amount of $2,500 towards hearing devices.
The UpState Hearing Instrument staff is passionate about helping you hear your best. We know that navigating insurance benefits can be daunting at times. We are here to help you determine if you have a benefit, and what that benefit may be in relation to the hearing device you would like to purchase.
When you call to schedule your complimentary hearing evaluation, you can provide your insurance information during that time, and we can inform you of your benefit information during your initial consultation. If you find that you do not have a hearing aid benefit through your insurance company, please ask us about our financing options.
Please note that a quote of benefits and/or authorization does not guarantee payment or verify eligibility. Payments of benefits are subject to all terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions of the member’s contract at time of service.
